About Makerspace 4 Inclusion
Makerspace 4 Inclusion is an international cooperation involving 5 organizations from across Europe: Digijeunes (FR), Transit Projectes sociales (ES), Nod Makerspace (RO), Horizonlab (IT) and Timelab (BE). Makerspaces are gathering points where communities of new and experienced makers connect to work on real and personally meaningful projects, informed by helpful mentors and expertise, using new technologies and traditional tools. The objective of our project is to promote makerspace-like environments and educational making activities as a means to foster social inclusion of young people.
Over the course of 2 years, the Makerspace 4 Inclusion team has produced a number of tutorials on making, a methodological guide for the educators who wish to set up their own making activities, a series of instructional videos about jump starting a makerspace-like environment, and finally a set of guidelines relating to open source hardware and software typically employed in maker education activities. So far the team has engaged hundreds of young people in educational making activities, they have been experiencing the concept of an inclusive maker education that would enable young people to grow intellectually and personally.
The Inclusive Maker Education Event scheduled for May 20th 2021 is an opportunity to share the outputs and results of Makerspace 4 Inclusion with representatives of educational institutions, youth centres, instructional environments, NGOs, youth practitioners, individuals affiliated to local maker communities, and local policy makers. The Event also creates a platform to discuss and exchange about inclusion and maker education. Together we set the Multiplier Effect of the project in motion!
The event will take place on ZOOM and everyone is welcome to join. There will be practical workshops and debate sessions organized by the team, which will touch upon the deliverables produced by the international consortium as well as our experience relating to maker education and inclusion of young people. Besides the contributions by the Makerspace 4 Inclusion team, we expect to host 6 invited speakers for panel discussions.
